Luvocracy Raises $11M From Kleiner Perkins, Google Ventures And Others To Master Ecommerce And Social Recommendations

Luvocracy, a recently launched, Pinterest-like social marketplace where people can buy products recommended by friends and other tastemakers, has raised $11 million in funding from Kleiner Perkins, Google Ventures, Marissa Mayer, Ali Pincus, Jim Lanzone, Tony Robbins, CrunchFund, RPM Ventures and XG Ventures. Kleiner Perkins partner Bing Gordon is joining Luvocracy's board.

Windows 8: Enough of an advance to jump in right now? - Business ...

Question: "Our office is thinking about converting to Windows 8 now rather than waiting till it?s absolutely necessary, but my boss wants us to be able to answer one question first: What problem does it solve? Chances are each member of your sales team has a technique that they are more inclined to using while making sale pitches. This does not mean that each of these techniques generates results.

Decide on the skills, attitudes and techniques that have proven to be successful in your company in the past and come up with a program to train your sales team on these. By doing this not only will you be sure that you are using effective methods, but you will also be presenting a united front.

Emphasize on personal responsibility

I played a symphony of chin music today, in two movements.

First, here?s a talk I gave this AM on investing in kids for the Washington Post Summit on Children and Families. ?And here are the slides.

Here?s one figure I stressed in the talk, showing some sort of good news: the safety net caught a lot of children in the recent Great Recession.

?We?re going to need to continue to support?not pull back?on the safety net that pretty much kept kids poverty rates from rising in the worst recession since the Great Depression.? As officially measured, child poverty went up four percentage points, 2007-10.? But as it should be measured, including the non-cash benefits and tax credits that ramped up to offset child poverty, it nudged up only very slightly?0.3 percentage points.?

Why is this just ?some sort of good news?? ?Because preventing kids poverty from rising, especially in a sharp downturn, is evidence of a strong safety net. ?But they don?t just need a safety net; they need a springboard.
